Matt, it’s another great article! I have one quibble as the historian of all things Bruce. The rehearsal in Holmdel in Bruce’s farmhouse occurred on Thursday, October 26, 1978. “Janey Needs a Shooter” was one of many song rehearsed and obviously the best. 🎸😎

Thanks Paul, I appreciate it! I got the date from the following on Brucebase:

“Given the evidence (including audio not circulating), we can confirm it is a Telegraph Hill rehearsal from May 1979.”

Although I think the 1978 date is the one most often used to this day…

After Bruce’s motorcycle accident in April of 1979, he would have retuned to the Power Station studio by May of 1979. So, the assumption of Holmdel rehearsals then was a good guess. However, the rehearsals in October of 1978 with “Janey” also featured “The Ties That Bind” added to the setlist to open the second set in early November. Princeton University freshman Jon Stewart heard the song performed at his concert on November 1, 1978 in the school’s gymnasium. 🎸😎
